  Software Requirements

All components require a Linux based standard PC (desktop or laptop).»GoVASP has been tested on

  • Debian 3.1, 4.0
  • SuSE 9.3
  • OpenSuSE 10.1
  • Fedora Core 5 & 6
  • Ubuntu 6
  • Gentoo 2006
  • Slackware/Slam64 10.2b
  • Mandrake/Mandriva 2006
  • RHEL 3 & 4
  • Cent OS 4.3

A MySQL database engine (server and client) and 3D graphics drivers are mandatory. Recommended are MySQL releases  newer than 4.1.12.

Note: Neither VASP binaries nor the VASP source code are included in the »GoVASP package. You must get your own copy of VASP and compile it yourself. The VASP source code is available from the VASP group in Vienna. VASP support will not be provided by  any of the »GoVASP distributors or sales agents.

  Hardware Requirements
Architecture/CPU 32 bit: Athlon (AMD), Pentium IV and XEON (Intel)
64 bit: Opteron, Athlon 64 single and X2 Dual Core (AMD), Core 2 (Intel)
CPU speed 2 GHz, the faster the better
Memory (RAM) at least 500 MB per CPU
Harddrive space 300 MB for all components and 20-120 GB for storing user data
Video card standard, at least 64 MBytes memory
Sound card not required
Network card 100 MBit or faster

To update »GoVASP download the ISO image and either burn it onto a CD-ROM or mount it directly as a loop device into your file sytem.

To install the User's Guide, save the file  and copy it  into the directory
bin/generic of the »GoVASP root directory on the machine which runs the JobServer. In order to activate the new manual restart the JobServer.
